The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation has supported women’s organisations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (the DR Congo) since 2009. Our partner organisations work with women who have suffered from the prolonged conflicts in the country in different ways.
Kvinna till Kvinna’s office is located in Bukavu in eastern DR Congo. Our work reaches out to several parts of the country, but is mainly concentrated to the South Kivu province. There is a great need for strengthening women’s rights and civil society. In eastern DR Congo, armed conflict between different groups is still ongoing and women are systematically being subjected to abuse. Discrimination against women is widespread within all sectors of society, including education, political decision-making, health and access to natural resources. Two out of three Congolese women are estimated to be victims of violence during their lifetime. The DR Congo is one of the most difficult places in the world to be a woman.
